Modularity is building a complex product or process from smaller subsystems that can be designed independently yet function together as a whole. A module is an independent building block of a larger system with a specific function and well-defined interfaces. It has fairly loose connections to the rest of the system allowing for independent development, outsourcing, manufacturing, recycling, etc
